Letter from Pauline Starkey Wells to Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn, 1875
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Pauline "Paul" Starkey Wells to her sister, Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn. It will cost only about 30¢ to ship Gertrude a trunk, so Paul has packed two white skirts, one plain and one ruffled, her “under waist,” and Paul’s fan for her. She couldn’t find Gerturde’s white slippers. She got out the dress while the Tuller boys were over on Saturday night, and they decided it was pretty enough to be worth the money to fix. Paul already knows the polka quadrille, but she asks Gertude to pay special attention to the polacca. She hopes Gertrude will have a splendid time, and she will ship the trunk to Frankford Pa, care of Mr. E. D. Hall. She reminds Gertrude to get her some tissue paper because she wants to hang May baskets in the Spring. Names mentioned: Tuller, the Halls, Mr. E. D. Hall Places mentioned: Phil. (Philadelphia), Frankford Pa.
