Letter Seeking Contributions for the Construction of the Pittsburgh Society Church
Scope and Contents
A typed announcement “To the Members and Friends of the New Church” that the Pittsburgh Society has purchased a $14,000 lot on the corner of Isabella and Sandusky streets, Allegheny and has contracted for the construction of “a neat frame building, 30x60 feet, according to the plans drawn by Messrs. Drum & Kuhn, Architects, the cost of which is to be $3065.” The Acting Committee has purchased and secured a loan on 20 shares of the Penn Ave. Building and Loan Association to pay for the construction of the building. The Society Trustees are now seeking voluntary contributions for repayment of the loan and for the provision of fencing, plumbing, gas fitting, furnishing, etc. A handwritten note at the bottom, possibly by Walter C. Childs, reads “Ground was broken for the building on Monday” Letter undated, but context implies 1873/1874. Names mentioned: Messrs.
