Notes by John Pitcairn on the Glorification of the Lord, 1873-02-08
Scope and Contents
Handwritten notes by John Pitcairn, Jr. on “Steamer Belle Lee: Regular New Orleans and Memphis Packet” letterhead. J Pitcairn had a conversation with Mr. Benade the previous night which helped him to understand the Doctrine of the Lord’s Glorification more clearly. Benade referenced a small treatise, which he thinks has only been published in England, in which Swedenborg says that the material of the Lord’s natural body dissipated in the tomb. Benade and Pitcairn discussed whether this contradicts True Christian Religion no. 109 which states that the Lord’s natural body was glorified and made Divine. Pitcairn now sees that there is a distinction between material and natural. He thinks the focus should be on the glorification of the natural, and he believes he will be able to understand this process more fully by holding this idea in his mind as he reads the Doctrine. Names mentioned: Mr. (William Henry) Benade
