Letter from Edith (no surname given) to Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn, 1870-05-02
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Edith (no surname given) at 173 Charles Street to “Gertie” Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn. “C. V. Mills Congress” seal pressed into upper left corner. Edith, busy with preparations, has failed to keep up her correspondences. She recently saw Mr. Nadleigh at the Apollo Club rooms, and he asked her to send regards to Gertrude. She trusts Gertrude’s mother “has less care” than last time she saw her, when she was very charitably hosting the Pendletons. Edith and her mother are moving to Europe, and she laments that she will not see Gertrude again for years unless Gertrude visits while on a wedding trip “with some real good generous man.” She will pick up loose ends with Maestro Jeanperti (?) and continue in her old opera business. Their house will be rented out, and Mary Kaigrse (?) will go to Mrs. John Nebetes (?). Edith is exhausted from preparing to give a concert, complete with costumes and scenery, at a large house, capable of holding 300 people. She was very pleased to hear of Gertrude joining the Church and hopes its meaning and blessings will grow on her in the years to come. Names mentioned: Mr. Nadleigh, Pendleton family, Dr. Hatch, Maestro Jeanperti (?), Mary Kaigrse (?), Mrs. John Nebetes (?) Places mentioned: Apollo Club, Europe
