Letter from Ruth Beebe to John Pitcairn, 1870-02-19
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Ruth Beebe in Kalamazoo to John Pitcairn, Jr. Beebe updates J. Pitcairn on her life in Kalamazoo. They have had a mild winter, and she has been in good enough health to attend Church every Sunday as well as two-hour lectures in a crowded house during the week. She greatly enjoyed hearing Miss Annie Dickinson last week on the subject of “whited sepulchres.” Although Kalamazoo has not been very gay, there have been several pleasant entertainments and private dancing “club parties” that Beebe thinks J Pitcairn would have enjoyed. She hopes he has something to take his mind off business occasionally. Beebe has received a letter from Allice announcing her marriage in May and asking Belle to be her bridesmaid. She has also received a letter from Mr. Wright announcing that Louise is to be married to the young gentleman who called to see her on his way to Sanduski (Sandusky?). Beebe intends to visit Erie and Buffalo in the spring and will be greatly disappointed if she does not meet J Pitcairn in either of these places. She still remembers his kindness to her at Renovo and feels very close to him. Names mentioned: Miss Annie Dickinson, Belle (Beth?), Allice, Mr. Wright, Louise Places mentioned: Kalamazoo, Renovo, Sanduski (Sandusky?), Erie, Buffalo
