Identifier: Sub-Series 1

Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from B. F. Glenn at 1700 Green Street, Philadelphia to John Pitcairn, Jr. B. F. Glenn asks J. Pitcairn why his visits to the Glenn home have become less frequent than they once were. Glenn worries it may have to do with the “unhappy difference” that arose between himself and Mr. Keith, which extended to numerous others. J. Pitcairn remained neutral and continued his visits to the Glenns’, which caused others to become jealous. Glenn wonders if something was said about them to J. Pitcairn to keep him away. He also wonders if disturbances within their Shakespeare Society, caused by the addition of several new members and their “New York notions,” could be the reason for J. Pitcairn’s absence. This matter has been the subject of much conversation in the Glenn household, and B. F. Glenn has decided to address it now before he returns to work following an illness. He hopes J. Pitcairn will reply frankly. Names mentioned: Mr. Keith, Shakespeare Society, Mary (Mary Aitken Glenn 1842-1925)
